JOINT APPLICATIONS
DEVELOPMENT

JOINT APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT brings the user communities
and the information technology communities together in a joint decision experience
to ensure the applications developed are what the business needs and users want.
In the late 1970’s, Chuck Morris of IBM developed the early JAD methodology,
and John Crosby extended Chuck’s work with data and process models. Since
1979, thousands of JAD sessions have been used to develop new applications, and
to select off-the-shelf applications. When combined with Rapid Application Development
techniques, the JAD/RAD methods have significantly shortened development time
and improved user satisfaction with the resulting solution. The JAD Tech team
has over 20 years experience conducting JAD sessions, teaching JAD classes, and
mentoring new facilitators and recorder/analysts to become effective JAD leaders.
The passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act by Congress in 2002 requires, in section
404 – Management Assessment of Internal Controls, the review of the corporation’s
application systems control and audit ability. Given the complexity and impact
of this analysis, the JAD consensus-decision methodology is an excellent way to
conduct this review, perform any process improvements required, and ensure that
the process is done effectively the first time.
